The first Texas Alumni event was held by Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara after turbulent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Multiple generations of alumni were invited to the event held at the Sustenio Bar and Restaurantin San Antonio, Texas. During the event, alumni gathered for food and beverages and took part in the establishment of the Texas Alumni Association Chapter.
The event was graced by the presence of multiple university authorities, most notably Lic. Susana Leaño Del Castillo, Vice President of International Affairs, Dr. Christopher Reeder, Dean of International Affairs, and Lic Ricardo Del Castillo Ruano, Executive Advisor.
Ms. Leaño emphasized the importance that alumni hold for the university by stating, “It is my belief that alumni, play a vital role in the direction and future of an academic institution, and it is the duty of an institution to never forget the alumni who once passed through our halls.”
Afterward, Dr. Reeder took the stage to express his gratitude for the event's attendance by many alumni of various backgrounds. Many of the alumni in attendance were from the school of medicine, however, there were also administrators, graphic designers, educators, and lawyers who shared one thing in common; the memories of having attended Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara for their studies.
The ceremony was concluded by gathering the alumni and presenting the Texas Alumni Chapter's organizational structure and referred those interested in taking part to contact the University. The Texas Alumni Chapter will consist of six board members who will be named at a later event and will be responsible for scheduling future events in conjunction with Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara to allow alumni to stay connected with their Alma Mater.
