How was your UAG (Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara) experience?

As a UAG graduate, I have had the opportunity to experience a wonderful and impactful career. During my time in Guadalajara in the 70s, I learned a new language and had the opportunity to experience a new culture while having an incredible time. UAG gave me the necessary tools to become the physician I am today. I am forever grateful to UAG for showing me the importance of serving my community.

My most meaningful memory was meeting and interacting with fellow Mexican students as well as my "Guardias"; experiencing life in the Mexican countryside in Jalisco and elsewhere including the cities, towns, and villages. For a young man from Massachusetts, it was a tremendous learning and maturing time in my life. I loved going back to witness how the school has grown.

What have you done to give back to the UAG Community?

I was invited to be a visiting professor at UAG in 2003 and had a wonderful experience.  I revisited the campus and gave a series of lectures over a week while having the opportunity to see how the school has evolved over the years.

What are your accomplishments after graduating from UAG?

As an Oncologist and Palliative Care specialist, I was Director of Supportive Oncology for the Northwell Cancer Program/Institute for 23 years until my retirement in 2020.

I came out of retirement in 2022 to lead a new program called the Clinical Research Alliance which strives to offer state-of-the-art interventional clinical cancer and supportive trials to underserved and culturally diverse community-based oncology practices in New York that previously had not had this opportunity.
