Here’s a checklist of important steps and resources to help you make a smooth transition before arriving on campus.

Enrollment and Documentation

Ensure you’ve completed all required enrollment documents and submitted necessary paperwork such as your admissions acknowledgment letter, official transcripts, and any additional documentation requested by the university. Keep a copy of these documents for your records.

Financial Aid

In order to receive consideration for federal aid, students must complete the FAFSA application using the UAG school code: G08147. The FAFSA application can be found here. For more detailed information you can download our Financial Aid Planning Guide.

Student Resident Card

Once in Mexico, you must apply for your Student Resident Card within 30 days of arrival. Contact UAG’s Immigration Department for assistance at asuntosmigratorios@uag.edu.

Student Visa and Travel

Consult with your admission counselor for guidance on visa requirements and travel arrangements. Plan your travel to Guadalajara and arrange any necessary transportation from the airport to your housing.

Immunization Records

The Immunization Record Form requires a medical history and examination completed and signed by a healthcare provider or a physician. Contact UAG’s Admissions Department for assistance at admissions@uag.edu.

Health Insurance

UAG offers a health insurance plan through MAPFRE, which is mandatory for all students. Details will be provided during Orientation, and inquiries should be directed to the insurance provider for coverage information.

Housing

Securing housing is just as important as registering for classes. While UAG School of Medicine doesn’t directly provide off-campus apartments or legal advice, we assist first-semester students in finding accommodations through trusted Real Estate Agencies or international housing platforms. These resources make renting a place fast and easy, helping you settle in smoothly as you begin your medical journey.

Traveling with pets

Before you travel, you must check with your veterinarian and obtain a health certificate and proof of vaccines. On arrival at the port of entry (land, sea, or air), take your pet(s) to the zoo sanitary kiosk (look for the acronym SAGARPA/SENSAICA; Ministry responsible for this process) at the port of entry and present the documentation to facilitate your pet’s entry into Mexico. Airlines may have separate and additional requirements. Check with your airline to determine what requirements they may have if any.

Orientation

All students are required to attend New Student Orientation before starting classes. Orientation will help you familiarize yourself with UAG's facilities, resources, and academic expectations.

 

You’ll also meet your peers and faculty while participating in workshops and campus tours to ensure a smooth transition into medical school life.

Packing for Guadalajara

Prepare a packing list that includes clothing, personal items, academic materials, and important documentation. Guadalajara has a warm climate, so pack accordingly, also bring a short white lab coat and scrubs available at the UAG Store.

E-mail Account

Each accepted student at UAG School of Medicine will receive an official UAG email address for all university-related communication. This email grants access to the University Portal. Access to these accounts is crucial for receiving important university updates.
