COUNCIL

The North American Student Association (NASA) at UAG School of Medicine is a student-led organization dedicated to representing and advocating for the interests of the student body. NASA serves as the voice of students, ensuring their needs, concerns, and ideas are heard by faculty and administration. The association plays a key role in enhancing student life by organizing a variety of academic, social, and community service events, promoting engagement, and fostering a sense of community among students.

The Student Council shall work to:

Project IMG UAG School of Medicine Chapter

The Project IMG Chapter at UAG is a student-led organization dedicated to supporting medical students in exploring international medical opportunities and experiences. Through workshops, mentorship, research guidance, and networking events, we provide members with the resources and knowledge needed to navigate global medical programs and enhance their professional development. Our goal is to empower students to build meaningful connections, gain valuable international exposure, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in a competitive medical field. 

Family Medicine Interest Group
 
The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) serves as an educational platform aimed at fostering and cultivating interest in the field of Family Medicine. Through various activities, FMIG aims to inspire medical students to explore and engage with the diverse aspects of Family Medicine, including its comprehensive approach to patient care across different stages of life. By participating in FMIG, students not only gain clinical insights but also develop leadership skills and a commitment to philanthropic endeavors within the medical community. 

AMSA UAG Chapter

The American Medicine Student Association (AMSA) aims to create a supportive environment for the innovative ideas of physicians-in-training, foster a cohesive relationship with student and non-student organizations of Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara International Chapter, serve as a platform for discussing health issues and shaping policy agendas, advocate for improvements in medical education responsive to societal needs, maintain its identity focused on physicians-in-training, enhance community health care through programs, cultivate healthcare leadership, offer valuable membership services, and promote health information awareness among members and the public. It commits to periodically reviewing and ensuring the effective fulfillment of these objectives. 

AMWA UAG Chapter

The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) plays a pivotal role by uniting individuals across medicine and health-related fields to actively advocate for women’s health issues. Through its steadfast commitment, AMWA not only addresses critical health concerns but also empowers its members through a robust framework of support and development initiatives, thereby cultivating both their professional expertise and personal growth. 

Anesthesiology Interest Group

The Anesthesiology Interest Group (AIG) aims to develop through collaboration, education, and advocacy. Our mission is to foster an environment where members can grow both professionally and personally, developing the knowledge, technical skills, and empathy essential to providing the highest quality of patient care. Through educational workshops, clinical exposure, community outreach, and meaningful dialogue, we aim to empower our members to become leaders who are not only skilled in the science and practice of anesthesiology, but also deeply committed to the well-being of the patients they serve. By working together, we strive to contribute to the advancement of medicine and to make a lasting impact in the field of anesthesiology. 

Internal Medicine Interest Group

The Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG) aims to cultivate a vibrant community among UAG medical students who are eager to delve into the complexities of internal medicine. Through a variety of initiatives including interactive workshops and informative guest lectures featuring seasoned professionals, our group strives to enrich members' understanding of diverse medical conditions and the nuanced approaches to their management. We prioritize hands-on learning experiences and mentorship opportunities that not only enhance clinical skills but also foster a deep appreciation for the holistic care provided by internists. 

Sports Medicine Group

The Sports Medicine Interest Group (SMIG) is an organization intended to help students learn more about the field of Sports Medicine. It is geared towards medical students who are considering pursuing a career in sports medicine, participating in service activities, or simply exploring topics in the field during their time in medical school. Some of the activities that SMIG will be involved in include general sports medicine, subspecialty panels for medical students, shadowing in a hospital or clinic, and possible on-field opportunities. The student will have the opportunity to ask a sports medicine physician or use them as a resource for questions about medical school, residency, sports medicine, etc. The goal of the Sports Medicine Interest Group is to spark interest in the field of sports medicine, introduce new aspects of what the field holds, strengthen the knowledge about sports medicine during medical school, and provide an opportunity to strengthen a resume for a Sports Medicine application. 

OB/GYN Interest Group

The Obstetrics/Gynecology Student Interest Group (OBGYN) main objective is to unite students with a shared interest in the field of obstetrics/gynecology and fertility modern medicine formed this group to acquire a deeper understanding of the obstetrics/gynecology specialty and to assist each other in our path to OB/GYN residency as international medical students. Their vision is to build future ethical specialists that will bring awareness to women’s health and stigmas, while serving   unprivileged communities. Explore relevant topics in the field and students connect them with OB/GYN professionals, while also raising women’s health awareness by providing community outreach through volunteer activities. 

Neurology Interest Group

The Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) purpose is to offer a range of neurology-focused events, activities, and resources aligned with the mission of UAGSOM. Members will benefit from specialized neurology resources, engage in discussions led by practicing neurologists, and have access to volunteer and study opportunities designed to deepen their understanding and practical skills in neurology. The group aims to foster a community of students with a shared interest in neurology, providing a platform for networking, mentorship, and collaboration. By bringing together individuals with similar medical career aspirations, our goal is to inspire mutual support and advancement, preparing members to excel in the field of neurology and contribute positively to healthcare innovation and patient care. 

Pediatric Interest Group

​​​​​​​The Pediatrics Interest Group (PIG) is dedicated to uniting medical students with a passion for pediatric medicine. The group aims to foster a supportive community where members can explore the unique healthcare needs of children through educational workshops, clinical experiences, and guest lectures from pediatric specialists. They strive to promote advocacy for pediatric health issues, provide resources for professional development, and cultivate compassionate caregivers equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver optimal care to pediatric patients. 

Psychiatry Interest Group

The Psychiatry Student Interest Group (PSIG) unites students with a shared interest in the field of psychiatry. This group has the mission to acquire a deeper understanding of the psychiatry specialty and to assist each other in our path to psychiatry residency as international medical students. Their vision is to build future ethical specialists in psychiatry that will fight mental health stigmas and serve unprivileged communities. They´d like to use the interest group as a starting point towards achieving psychiatry residency by exploring relevant topics in the field and students connecting with psychiatric professionals, while also raising mental health awareness by providing community outreach through volunteer activities. 

Surgery Interest Group

The Surgery Interest Group (SIG) is committed to uniting and inspiring medical students interested in the field of surgery. Through a variety of activities including surgical skills workshops, possible mentorship from practicing surgeons, and educational seminars on surgical techniques and advancements, the group aims to prepare members for careers in surgical specialties. We emphasize hands-on learning experiences, professional development opportunities, and networking with surgeons and surgical residents to equip members with the knowledge, skills, and dedication required to excel in surgical practice and contribute positively to patient care. 

Emergency Medicine Organization

The Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMO) provides UAG medical school students with comprehensive resources, enriching experiences, and invaluable opportunities in Emergency Medicine. Through networking events, workshops, and the systematic consolidation of pertinent Emergency Medicine information, we aim to foster a supportive environment where students can engage with practicing professionals, participate in hands-on learning, and gain practical insights essential for emergency care settings. Our goal is to share our passion and knowledge, preparing students for successful careers in Emergency Medicine while promoting leadership, advocacy, and community awareness within this dynamic field of healthcare. 

Traumatology Association

The of Traumatology Association for Medical Students (TAMS) provide traumatology-oriented events, activities/workshops, and resources to interested students in accordance with the UAG School of Medicine’s mission. Members will have access to traumatology-specific resources, discussions from current, practicing traumatologists (trauma doctors and surgeons), volunteer, study and skill practice opportunities, among other resources and tools. This student organization aims to bring together students who share a common interest in traumatology and have similar medical career aspirations in hopes of bettering each other and have a multifaceted approach towards traumatology. 

Cardiology Interest Group

The Cardiology Interest Group is a community of UAG medical students passionate about cardiovascular health. We aim to inspire and prepare future physicians through workshops, lectures, research, and hands-on experiences that build knowledge, skills, and compassion. By connecting students with experienced cardiologists and fostering a supportive environment, we strive to develop confident leaders ready to advance the field of cardiology and improve patient care. 

Dermatology Interest Group

The Dermatology Interest Group (DIG) aims to spark medical students' interest in dermatology through educational meetings with guest speakers, faculty, and dermatology residents. They highlight dermatology's diverse aspects, including subspecialties, clinical challenges, and treatment advancements. DIG actively engages students in organized medicine, ensuring their voices are heard in discussions on dermatological issues. Our goal is to foster a creative environment, advocate for improvements in medical education, and maintain strong relationships within the student and campus community. 
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

2nd semester Step 1 USMLE Study group 

The Second Semester Step 1 Study Group is a collaborative community of UAG medical students dedicated to preparing for the USMLE Step 1 exam. Through structured study sessions, peer-to-peer discussions, resource sharing, and practice questions, members support each other in mastering foundational medical knowledge. Our goal is to foster a focused and motivating environment where students can strengthen their understanding, build effective study habits, and confidently succeed on Step 1. 

Nephrology Interest Group
 
The Nephrology Interest Group (NIG) unites individuals passionate about kidney health to advance nephrology globally. We aim to reduce the burden of kidney diseases through optimal healthcare and awareness initiatives. NIG provides resources to deepen understanding of kidney health, educate about renal diseases, and enhance members' skills through lectures, research, workshops, and hands-on activities. Our goal is to foster professional growth, prepare members for clinical rotations, and empower them to contribute meaningfully to nephrology. 

Orthopedic Student Society
 
The Orthopedic Student Society (OSS) is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant community of future orthopedic professionals. Through comprehensive education, hands-on mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and active community outreach, we aim to empower our members with the knowledge, skills, and compassion essential for delivering exceptional orthopedic care. Our mission centers on providing a supportive environment where aspiring orthopedists can thrive, expand their understanding of musculoskeletal health, and develop proficiency in clinical practice. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, we prepare our members to make significant contributions to the field of orthopedics, uphold standards of excellence in patient care, and positively impact healthcare outcomes. 

Pathology Interest Group
 
The Pathology Student Association (PSA) is dedicated to giving UAG medical students a deeper understanding of pathology through interactive learning, hands-on experiences, and collaboration across programs. Using the resources of the ICB campus, we provide unique opportunities to explore histology and pathology in a practical setting, connect with faculty and peers, and gain skills in disease analysis and clinical application. Our goal is to inspire curiosity, promote professional growth, and prepare students for future careers in pathology. 

Hematology & Oncology Student Interest Group (HOSIG) 

The Hematology & Oncology Student Interest Group (HOSIG) is dedicated to helping UAG medical students explore the fields of hematology and oncology. Through regular meetings with specialists, workshops, journal clubs, research panels, and volunteering opportunities, HOSIG provides resources to deepen understanding of these specialties and their connection to other human systems. Our goal is to inspire interest, expand knowledge, and equip future physicians with the skills and experience needed to excel in hematology and oncology. 

Student Research Initiative 

The Student Research Initiative is a collaborative community of student scientists dedicated to advancing knowledge through well-designed research questions, thorough literature reviews, and sharing findings in official publications. Through regular meetings, workshops, and guided mentorship, members gain hands-on experience in conducting reviews, understanding reproducible data, and navigating the publication process. Our goal is to empower students to contribute meaningfully to the scientific community, both individually and collaboratively.
