At UAG School of Medicine, we take pride in seeing our students step beyond their studies and share their work with the broader medical community. Their accomplishments represent more than individual milestones; they reflect the curiosity, dedication, and ambition that shape their journeys toward becoming physicians.

That pride was on full display in Nashville, Tennessee, where a team of UAG medical students presented their work at the
2026 Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), held October 9–14.
For UAG, moments like these are an opportunity to celebrate what our students are working toward and what they are already beginning to accomplish. Medical school is a time to build knowledge, develop perspective, and discover how that knowledge can contribute to the profession. Seeing students take an active role in sharing their work is a meaningful part of that journey.

Recognizing the Team Behind the Work

The presentation, titled “When Inflammation Mimics Invasion: A Gastric Hyperplastic Polyp Simulating T2 Gastric Cancer on EUS,” brought together the work of six contributors from the UAG community. 🔗 DOI: 10.14309/01.ajg.0001236084.71362.11

Taisha N. Pietri served as first author and presenter, joined by Yacob González, Carolyn Cruz, Etienne A. Rivera, José Torres, and Beth Fuentes. The project received clinical support from gastroenterologist Dr. Néstor Urdiales and was carried out under the direction of Dr. Lucía Álvarez-Palazuelos.

UAG
Taisha, José, and Beth traveled to Nashville to present the work and participate in the meeting. The case was also published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, extending the team's work beyond the conference itself.

We congratulate every member of the team and recognize Dr. Urdiales and Dr. Álvarez-Palazuelos for their contributions and guidance.

A Community to Be Proud Of

Every student's path through medical school is different. What makes these moments worth celebrating is seeing members of the UAG community take what they have learned and put their efforts toward something they can share with others.
