Cardiac Merger: Dr. Fred Talarico to Head Up Cardiac Services at Mohawk Valley Health System

A well known Mohawk Valley Cardiologist is leaving private practice and merging with Mohawk Valley Health System.

A well-known Mohawk Valley Cardiologist is leaving private practice and merging with Mohawk Valley Health System.
 
Dr. Fred Talarico, who has operated his own Cardiovascular and Preventative Medicine practice since 1986, is joining MVHS and has been named Medical Director of Cardiac Services.
Beginning September 1, the practice will become MVHS Cardiovascular and Preventative Medicine with Fred Talarico, MD, FACC, the hospital announced on Tuesday.

“I, along with nurse practitioners Pat Rosati, ANP, and Taylor Unser, FNP-C, look forward to making this transition," Talarico said.

In a message to patients on his website, Dr. Talarico added:

“It has been our privilege to provide you with cardiovascular and preventative care over the years. Your trust in our team has been greatly appreciated. In our continuing efforts to help meet your healthcare needs for many years to come, we have decided to merge with MVHS Medical Group effective Thursday, September 1, 2022."

Those with appointments on Wednesday, August 31, will still be seen at 2115 Genesee Street.

However, beginning on September 1, Dr. Talarico and his team will begin seeing patients at the MVHS Medical Arts Building, located at 4401 Middle Settlement Road - Suite 208, in New Hartford, officials said.

Talarico earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Boston University, attended medical school at the Autonomous University at Guadalajara and received his M.D. from the State University of New York. Additionally, Talarico conducted post clinical training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed a fellowship at SUNY Buffalo in Cardiovascular Medicine.

One year ago, in August of 2021, MVHS announced it had been named a Heartcare Center, a national distinction of excellence from the American College of Cardiology. "MVHS is further strengthening its cardiac service line for the upcoming transition to the new Wynn Hospital in 2023," a release from the hospital system said.
About Dr. Fred Talarico

Dr. Talarico was born and raised in Utica, New York and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1970. He then attended Boston University attaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Political Science.

He went on to medical school at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara where he graduated in 1979 and received his M.D. degree from the State University of New York. He spent one year of post clinical training at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and then went on to do residencies in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at SUNY Buffalo.

Afterwards he continued further postgraduate training at SUNY Buffalo completing a fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine. In 1986, upon finishing his residency and fellowship training. Dr. Talarico moved back to the Mohawk Valley and opened up a solo practice in Cardiovascular and Preventive Medicine which he has maintained to the present day. He is currently board eligible in Pediatric Medicine and board certified in both Adult Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine.

He is a member and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the Oneida County Medical Society as well as the New York State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He is on the active staff of the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center and is past president and vice president of its medical staff. He has also been Chairman of its Department of Internal Medicine.

He also is on the courtesy staff of the St. Luke's- Faxton Medical Center. Dr. Talarico is also an active member of the Mohawk Valley Heart Institute. He has served on several local boards and has been a past president of the local American Heart Association Volunteer Board and he is also currently an avid supporter of the Masonic Medical Cardiac Research Laboratory and has served on its Advisory Board.
