UAG Awards the Lic. Antonio Leaño Álvarez del Castillo Honor to Eight Distinguished Alumni

Eight UAG alumni were honored with awards at the UAG School of Medicine ceremony.

The recognized alumni have excelled in different fields at both the national and international levels.

The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara honored eight distinguished alumni with the Lic. Antonio Leaño Álvarez del Castillo Award, the highest recognition granted by the institution to those who have demonstrated exceptional excellence in different fields at both the national and international levels.

This prestigious award is presented to alumni whose professional careers, contributions to society, and human values make them true representatives of the principles of their Alma Mater.
Celebrating Dr. Adolfo I. Sáez Ríos Impact
Among this distinguished group, Dr. Adolfo I. Sáez Ríos was recognized for his remarkable contributions to medicine and global health. A graduate of UAG’s International Medical Program, Dr. Sáez Ríos has built an extraordinary career spanning surgery, gastroenterology, and clinical development. His work with the United States Armed Forces in medical missions and high-risk environments reflects a deep commitment to service, resilience, and humanitarian impact.

Dr. Sáez Ríos has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications, contributing significantly to medical research and advancing clinical knowledge worldwide. His leadership extends into the pharmaceutical and medical innovation sectors, where he has held key roles across multiple countries. He currently serves as
Medical Marketing Manager for Aspen LATAM, guiding strategies that impact healthcare across the region.

His achievements embody the spirit of the Lic. Antonio Leaño Álvarez del Castillo Honor—demonstrating excellence, integrity, and a lifelong dedication to improving the well-being of others. Dr. Sáez Ríos continues to represent UAG on the global stage as a true leader in his field.
 

Ceremony Held as Part of UAG’s 90th Anniversary

The ceremony took place at the Dr. Luis Garibay Gutiérrez Auditorium, where university authorities, led by President Lic. Antonio Leaño Reyes, presented the institution’s highest honor.

In his message, the President of UAG highlighted that this recognition is part of the celebrations for UAG’s 90th anniversary, marking a legacy dedicated to educating leaders with global impact.

The ceremony was held at the Dr. Luis Garibay Gutiérrez Auditorium at UAG.

“We have spent 90 years shaping leaders who, like you, have left—and continue to leave—an indelible mark on society. For UAG, our alumni represent living proof of our impact on the world.”

He also noted that this distinction has been awarded for 18 consecutive years, with a total of 94 professionals having received this honor, and encouraged the recipients to become ambassadors of their Alma Mater.
 

“Be a beacon of inspiration and a role model for new generations. Your success is our success; your ethics reflect our values. Stay close to your university—this will always be your home,” concluded Rector Lic. Antonio Leaño Reyes.

Recognition of Outstanding Careers

During the ceremony, video profiles of each award recipient were presented, after which they shared messages with the audience, including university authorities, family members, and guests.

Also in attendance were
Mtro. Juan Carlos Leaño, Administrative Vice President; Dr. Alfonso Petersen Farah, Academic and Health Sciences Vice President; Dr. Ricardo Beltrán Rojas, Secretary General; and Mtro. Ariosto Manrique Moreno, National President of the UAG Alumni Association.
At the conclusion of the formal ceremony, a celebratory cocktail reception was held in the Rector’s Courtyard, where attendees gathered in an atmosphere of recognition and university pride.
 

A Tribute to the Legacy of Lic. Antonio Leaño Álvarez del Castillo

The award bears the name of one of UAG’s founders, Lic. Antonio Leaño Álvarez del Castillo, a key figure in the defense of Academic Freedom and Autonomía Universitaria.

His life was marked by social service, philanthropy, the defense of Autonomía Universitaria, and the promotion of community well-being.

Don Antonio stood out as an exceptional leader, educator, entrepreneur, and defender of patriotic values. His vision continues to guide UAG in its educational mission.
