
Dr. John Griffin began his medical journey at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in 1980, entering through the Instituto de Ciencias Biológicas (ICB). He graduated in 1984, joining a generation of UAG physicians whose commitment to medicine and lifelong friendships continue to reflect the values of their alma mater.
Looking back on his years in Guadalajara, Dr. Griffin fondly remembers a very different era. There were no White Coat Ceremonies at the time, yet his experience was filled with unforgettable moments, meaningful friendships, and memories that remain close to his heart. He treasures the photographs from those years and is still in touch with many of his classmates. Seeing today's students celebrate the White Coat Ceremony is especially meaningful to him, as it reflects the continued growth of traditions that unite generations of UAG physicians.
Dr. Griffin is a board-certified physician specializing in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, with more than 42 years of experience dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate care to older adults. Throughout his career, he has focused on addressing the complex healthcare needs associated with aging while improving the quality of life of his patients.
After earning his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine, Dr. Griffin completed his residency training at Hackensack University Medical Center. During his training, he served as Chief Medical Resident (R-4), taking on a leadership role while continuing to develop his clinical expertise.
Dr. Griffin was in medical practice from 1988 through 2018, dedicating three decades to caring for his patients. In addition to his clinical work, he held a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, now Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, contributing to the education and development of future physicians.
Throughout his career, Dr. Griffin practiced at multiple locations throughout New Jersey, including Hackensack and Newark, and was affiliated with respected institutions such as Hackensack University Medical Center and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Although now retired from clinical practice, his decades of service, leadership, and dedication to medical education have left a lasting impact on the patients, colleagues, and students he served
