This year, UAG School of Medicine submitted proposals to the ScholarRx grant — and five were selected. Five educational Bricks, authored by our students and faculty, will be published on the USMLE-Rx ScholarRx platform. The achievement was recognized by ScholarRx on LinkedIn, where UAG School of Medicine was tagged.

The initiative was led by
Dr. Lucía Elizabeth Álvarez-Palazuelos, Director of Neurosciences and Research Methodology, who identified the opportunity, guided each team from proposal to submission, and will remain involved with every project through final publication.

Three Bricks are student-led, from initial concept to final content:
  • Shelsie Olivo Torres, Nadyeli Zolian Rodríguez Ramírez, and Dr. Lucía Elizabeth Álvarez-Palazuelos: "Cut with Caution: Recognizing and Preventing Nerve Injuries During Common Surgical Procedures"
  • Francisco José Toro Acevedo and Dr. Lucía Elizabeth Álvarez-Palazuelos: "When the Heart Cannot Keep Up: “Managing Mitral Stenosis in Pregnancy"
  • Genesis Nin Arroyo M.S., Astrid Amairani Pérez, Katelyn Michelle Millett, and Dr. Lucía Elizabeth Álvarez-Palazuelos: "Dermatoses of Pregnancy: A Framework for Diagnosis and Fetal Risk Assessment"
Two come from faculty:
  • Dr. Montserrat Ezquerra Gómez, Dr. Ennid Duran Gonzalez, and Dr. Lucía Elizabeth Álvarez-Palazuelos: "Beyond the Diagnosis: Assessing Decision-Making Capacity in Psychiatric Patients"
  • Dr. Lucía Elizabeth Álvarez-Palazuelos: "Major Decussations of the Nervous System: Why Students Always Get the Side Wrong"
We thank USMLE-Rx ScholarRx for this opportunity and for recognizing our work. More to come.
