Since I was young, I felt a strong curiosity for science and for understanding how the human body works. Along with a genuine desire to serve others and the support of great mentors, medicine became more than a vocation for me — it became a real passion.
That passion naturally led me to UAG School of Medicine. I was born and raised in Guadalajara, and UAG has always been known for excellent medical training. My parents are UAG alumni, and from a young age they encouraged me to continue my preparation with the same values and academic rigor. After my sabbatical year, I visited the campus and felt it was the right fit. I really liked the curriculum, the learning environment, and the infrastructure the university offers.
Throughout my training, UAG gave me a very strong foundation that has helped me perform well in the different roles I’ve held over the last few years. Early clinical exposure also strengthened my sense of empathy, which I consider a cornerstone in a doctor’s toolbox and essential to providing the best care possible.
That foundation also shaped my interest in global health and neuroscience. Mission:BRAIN Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on addressing the neurosurgical gap between high-income and low- and middle-income countries through capacity building, collaboration, and world-class neuroscience education. Today, the foundation has a presence in 28 countries through more than 100 chapters worldwide.
UAG was the second Mission:BRAIN chapter globally, and I founded the chapter shortly after graduating. Since then, the UAG chapter has continued to engage students through meetings, workshops, mentorship, and access to an international academic network.
