On April 29, Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) hosted an engaging and highly successful Interprofessional Scenario Session for Block 2 medical students, focused on collaboration with the nursing field—one of the most essential partnerships in healthcare.
As part of this curricular session, integrated into the students’ regular class schedule, participants explored the topic of nursing practice through a hands-on learning experience centered on IV Peripheral Cannulation. The session was led by distinguished nursing professionals, including Lic. Iván Hernández, Lic. Ana Navarro, and Lic. Brittany Robles, and the CSD team who guided students through both the theoretical foundations and practical application of the procedure.
The experience emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in clinical settings, reinforcing the idea that effective patient care depends on teamwork across healthcare specialties.
“These interprofessional scenarios are designed so that students understand early in their training that they will always be working in close contact with other disciplines within the healthcare sector,” said Dr. Daniel Alejandro Rivera, Co-Director of Clinical Skills Development at UAG. “In this case, nursing is perhaps the discipline they will interact with most throughout their professional lives.”
A key highlight of the session was a live, hands-on demonstration, where students, under informed consent, participated directly in the procedure. This allowed their peers to observe and practice IV cannulation techniques in a controlled, supervised environment

Dr. Rafael J. Sepulveda Acosta, a UAG Class of 2007 alumnus, is a triple board-certified physician and leader in Sleep, Obesity, and Internal Medicine who has built a comprehensive, patient-centered approach focused on the connection between sleep health and long-term metabolic wellness.
