The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) proudly hosted Retorno 2025, a series of heartfelt reunions honoring alumni who have reached milestone anniversaries—25, 35, 50, and even 60 years since graduating.
Honoring Decades of History and Legacy
At the UAG campus, alumni from diverse disciplines—including medicine, engineering, law, architecture, business, and dentistry—gathered to relive memories and celebrate their lifelong connection to the university. The ceremonies paid tribute to those who have left an enduring mark in their fields, their communities, and in the history of UAG itself.
Dr. Alfonso Petersen Farah, Vice-Rector for Academics and Health Sciences, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the alumni and reflected on the university’s growth:
“Like the lives of people and institutions, our university’s history has been full of challenges and great achievements. What endures is the spirit, dedication, and commitment to the values that define us,” he said.
Dr. Petersen highlighted the university’s evolution—from its first classrooms in downtown Guadalajara to the expansion of the Ciudad Universitaria campus—emphasizing that alumni success remains UAG’s greatest source of pride.
“Our university continues to grow and transform,” he said. “We’ve expanded educational spaces, enhanced facilities, diversified sports areas, and modernized academic programs. But above all, the most valuable part of UAG is you—our alumni.”
Messages of Gratitude and Pride
The ceremonies were filled with emotion as alumni shared stories from their student years and reflected on the lasting influence of their UAG education
Dr. Rubén Armando Grijalva Félix, a graduate of the School of Medicine, expressed deep nostalgia and gratitude:
“When I close my eyes and think of those years, I walk again through the university halls—I remember the laughter, the celebrations, the nerves before exams, and endless conversations with friends. We shared more than classrooms; we shared a spirit—a commitment to values, ethics, and social responsibility.”
Representing the 25- and 35-year classes, Dr. Sonia Blanco Mejía, a Doctor of Medicine graduate, congratulated her peers and spoke of the resilience and achievements that define UAG alumni:
“We look back with gratitude and forward with hope, thankful for our professors, families, and classmates who accompanied us along the way. Each of us has left a mark in education, health, science, art, business, or public service—proof that UAG’s education continues to impact lives.”
A Living Legacy of Values
Mtro. Ariosto Manrique Moreno, President of the UAG Alumni Association, highlighted the importance of unity, gratitude, and shared purpose:
“The university grows with each of us,” he said. “Here we became professionals and human beings committed to love for God, respect for our country, and the defense of family. Today we celebrate what we have lived, learned, and shared—remembering with affection those who are no longer with us but remain in our hearts.”
A Celebration of Past and Future
Following the ceremonies, alumni and university leaders joined in a commemorative cocktail held at the courtyard of Building G. The gatherings were filled with joy, laughter, and heartfelt reunions—an enduring reminder of the values and friendships that define UAG.
As the celebrations came to a close, many expressed a shared wish: to reunite once again in 2035, for the centennial of their Alma Mater, and continue honoring the spirit of excellence, service, and humanity that has defined the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara for over nine decades.

As part of its 90th anniversary, UAG hosted “The Experience By UAG,” where International Program medical students showcased faculty-mentored academic projects and a TED-style talk, highlighting innovation, creativity, and the university’s commitment to world-class medical education.
