The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) celebrated the launch of its New Mexico Alumni Chapter in Albuquerque, led by Dr. Julie Harrigan, uniting graduates in a night that highlighted UAG’s lasting spirit of empathy, service, and community.
At the foot of the beautiful Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the UAG New Mexico Alumni Chapter was officially established under the leadership of Dr. Julie Harrigan.
The celebration took place at Savoy Bar & Grill, where alumni gathered for a special dinner graciously hosted by the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG). Messages from Lic. Antonio Leaño Reyes, Dean of UAG, and Susana Leaño, Vice President for International Affairs, were shared with attendees. Their words reminded graduates that the University’s core values—empathy, service, and compassion—continue to live through them, and that the UAG community takes great pride in their professional and personal achievements.
The evening was enriched by the presence of distinguished alumni, including Dr. Beverido (Class of 2013, Internal Medicine, Albuquerque), Dr. McDill (Class of 2008, Chama, NM), Dr. Dereck Johnson (Class of 1999, Plastic Surgery, Santa Fe), Dr. Siavesh (Class of 1992, Roswell, NM)—whose daughter is currently a UAG student—and Dr. Alfaro (Class of 2002, Family Medicine, Albuquerque).
Dr. Harrigan emphasized the importance of unity among alumni in strengthening New Mexico’s healthcare community and warmly welcomed everyone while listening to the inspiring stories shared throughout the evening.
As the event came to a close, one sentiment resonated across the room: the UAG spirit continues to thrive wherever our graduates go.
Because once UAG, always UAG.
