
Professional Spotlight: Dr. Gary S. Fishman, MD, FACS
The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) School of Medicine proudly highlights the remarkable career of alumnus Dr. Gary S. Fishman, an accomplished otolaryngologist with more than four decades of dedicated service in patient care, education, and surgical innovation.
Currently practicing with Advent Medical Group in Daytona Beach, Florida, Dr. Fishman continues to make a profound impact in the field of otolaryngology. He brings to his patients not only extensive expertise in endoscopic sinus surgery, balloon sinuplasty, and advanced treatments for GERD and laryngopharyngeal reflux, but also a deep commitment to compassionate care and patient education. His dedication has consistently translated into improved outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, and reduced hospital readmissions.
Before relocating to Florida, Dr. Fishman built a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years with ENT and Allergy Associates in New York, where he served both adult and pediatric patients. His leadership included training medical staff on the latest diagnostic procedures, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and implementing preventive health strategies that benefitted entire communities.
A proud graduate of UAG School of Medicine (Class of 1978), Dr. Fishman completed his general surgery and otolaryngology residencies at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, where he served as Chief Resident. He later earned board certification from the American Board of Otolaryngology and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, reflecting his lifelong commitment to excellence and professionalism in medicine.
Beyond his clinical achievements, Dr. Fishman has been involved in research at the Rose Kennedy Center for Research in Human Development, contributed to patient education initiatives, and is fluent in Spanish, which enables him to connect more closely with diverse patient populations.
As he continues to serve patients and mentor colleagues, Dr. Fishman exemplifies the values and mission of UAG—training physicians who combine skill, compassion, and a global outlook. His story stands as an inspiration to current and future generations of UAG doctors.




As part of its 90th anniversary, UAG hosted “The Experience By UAG,” where International Program medical students showcased faculty-mentored academic projects and a TED-style talk, highlighting innovation, creativity, and the university’s commitment to world-class medical education.


UAG School of Medicine held a three-day Leadership & Faculty Development Retreat that united academic leaders and faculty to strengthen collaboration, drive curricular innovation, and align on the future of medical education.
