At UAG School of Medicine, we take pride in seeing our graduates build meaningful careers and make a difference in the communities they serve. Dr. John W. Odom, a UAG alumnus and practicing surgeon, is one example of how a commitment to medicine can extend well beyond the walls of a hospital.

After earning his medical degree at Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Dr. Odom continued his postgraduate training in the United States and built a career in general and trauma surgery. Over the years, his work has also included medical education, professional leadership, and contributions to the development of future surgeons.

His journey reflects the many dimensions of life in medicine. Physicians bring their knowledge and skills to patient care, but they also have opportunities to guide colleagues, strengthen healthcare institutions, and build relationships that positively affect the people around them.

That broader commitment to service was recently recognized when the
Georgia Department of Public Safety presented Dr. Odom with an Honorary Trooper Award. The recognition celebrates his longstanding support for department personnel and their families.

Dr. Odom’s accomplishments are a source of pride for the UAG School of Medicine community. His career is a reminder that the influence of a physician can reach far beyond individual patient encounters, leaving a meaningful impression on colleagues, institutions, and the communities they serve.

Congratulations to Dr. John W. Odom on this recognition. UAG School of Medicine is proud to celebrate your accomplishments and the impact you continue to make.
