The International Medicine Program of the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) continues to train physicians who transform lives around the world.

On this occasion, students from the United States and Puerto Rico completed their studies, joining the more than 19,000 physicians this program has graduated throughout its history.

During their graduation ceremony, Dr. Adolfo J. Saez—an alumnus of the program and recipient of the Lic. Antonio Leaño Álvarez del Castillo Award as a distinguished alumnus—served as the class sponsor.

“I feel like a son returning home after a long journey. That is what studying Medicine is—a long journey, a heavy burden, but every step was worth it,” he shared in his speech.

“This day is more than a ceremony: it marks the moment when your story changes forever. In just a few minutes, you will stop being students and become physicians, carrying with you the identity, purpose, and seal of your alma mater.”

He added that a physician’s work never truly ends; there will always be new challenges, lessons, and opportunities to serve. This stage also marks the beginning of building a professional network that will accompany them for life. Their journey began here, and today it moves forward stronger than ever.

Following his message, diplomas were awarded, marking the completion—at least for now—of the graduates’ academic studies. This was followed by the Hippocratic Oath, administered by Dr. Carla Romo Jaramillo, professor of the graduating class.

Resilience and Passion

During the same ceremony, Dr. Kashif Ahmad, Dean of the International Medicine Program, addressed the graduates, encouraging them not to forget their alma mater and reminding them of the importance of building bridges and maintaining their vocation of service to patients.

“I remind you to prioritize collaboration and intercultural innovation. Here, we taught you the skills and knowledge necessary to become compassionate and effective healthcare providers,” he noted.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating class was Dr. Carlos Alexis Rodríguez Morales, who encouraged his classmates to see this ending as the beginning of a new journey.

“Learning with discipline and living with passion defined every stage of our path. Medicine always represented a long and demanding journey that transformed the way we see the world and understand ourselves. Along the way, we discovered that resilience was not just a tool, but a constant companion that allowed us to move forward when it seemed impossible,” he explained.

The ceremony took place at the “Lic. Antonio Leaño Reyes” Auditorium on UAG’s Ciudad Universitaria campus.
