Committed to offering better spaces to its community, the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) is currently carrying out an important renovation of its University Gymnasium.
In the first stage, the project includes the renovation of the esplanade and the main entrance, which will be updated with materials such as steel, exposed concrete, glass, and aluminum.
This combination of materials not only guarantees durability and low maintenance but also projects an image of innovation and technological vanguard, explained Arq. Rafael Moreno Rodríguez, UAG Project and Construction Manager.
It is important to mention that despite renovation work being carried out, the events scheduled at the University Gymnasium will take place at the same location.
For this reason, UAG appreciates the understanding of the university community attending any scheduled event during this first part of the year, as access through the main entrance will be restricted and entry will only be through the side doors, which will be properly marked.
These types of renovations are of great importance to UAG, as they are being carried out to offer better service and address the current needs of the university community.
In the second stage of the project, modernization of the interior of the building is planned, in which the sports complex will be redistributed and remodeled.
This modernization includes the construction of a new weight training gym, located at the upper part of the entrance, with an area of 773 square meters and cardiovascular and weight equipment.
This new weight training gym includes:
Arq. Moreno Rodríguez explained that the design of this space includes panoramic views of the Andares and Landmark corporate district, integrating urban dynamism with university physical activity.
It should be noted that the current weight training gym, located beneath the stands of the University Gymnasium, will remain in use for members of the institution.
This second stage, explained by the UAG Project and Construction Manager, is expected to be completed within a six-month period.
It should be noted that the project includes a bioclimatic strategy, which takes advantage of the local climate to maintain a good temperature inside the building. Strategies to be developed include:
This project is part of the infrastructure renewal plan to offer a better experience to its community.
To complement the industrial style and functionality, an advanced lighting system will be integrated, such as:
In this way, UAG will renovate its University Gymnasium this year, which will appear as a modern space with state-of-the-art equipment.
It is worth highlighting that the Gymnasium project is part of the infrastructure renewal plan for different UAG spaces to offer a better experience to its community.

In this inspiring interview, Dr. Paul Thomas Wielebinski reflects on how his education at UAG shaped his 40-year career in Internal Medicine, instilling clinical excellence, a global perspective, and a lifelong commitment to patient-centered care.
