Mariana Ramírez Ruvalcaba and Itzel Sofía Simpson Sagahon
We’re proud to share that two of our Social Service Intern Doctors from the UAG School of Medicine, Mariana Ramírez Ruvalcaba and Itzel Sofía Simpson Sagahon, recently presented an outstanding case report at the XVIII Mexican Congress of Neurosurgery, held July 24–30, 2025, at Expo Guadalajara.
Their case, titled “Occipital Glioblastoma With Atypical Recurrence in the Corpus Callosum,” was developed under the mentorship of Dr. Lucía Álvarez, Director of Neuroscience and Research. It involved the analysis of a rare and aggressive brain tumor (IDH-wild type occipital glioblastoma) that recurred at a distant site via the corpus callosum—making it a unique contribution to the field.

This presentation marks a significant moment, as it’s the first time that Social Service medical interns have presented research under the UAG School of Medicine name at this congress. Their abstract was also published in the
official proceedings of the congress (Archives of Neurosurgery, 2025).
