Get to know Internist Dr. Peter John Muran, who serves patients in Newport Beach, California.

Dr. Muran is a seasoned internist at Longevity Healthcare, with over 30 years of experience providing care to patients in a variety of settings. He looks at his patient’s entire health as a whole when developing a treatment plan.

Taking a patient-centered approach to healing, his philosophy is to blend internal medicine and naturopathic medicine. His mission is to focus on listening and understanding his patient’s mind, body, and spirit.

The doctor takes a functional medicine approach that looks for the root cause, which can be the source of many conditions. In identifying this root cause there is an emphasis on the external and internal environment, metabolic pathways, genetics, hormonal sufficiency, neurological and psychological well-being, immune health and modulation, detoxification efficacy of the liver and kidney, and gastrointestinal health. It also includes the balancing of the neurotransmitters and any influences of the DNA response.

Back in 1978, Dr. Muran obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Loyola Marymount University. He graduated with his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and completed his residency at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Later, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from Pepperdine University.

Board-certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, he is an active member of many professional organizations, including the Institute of Functional Medicine, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, the American College for the Advancement of Medicine, the American Nutritional Association, the American Medical Directors Association, the Bio-identical Hormone Society, the California Medical Association, the International Hormone Society, the International Lyme, and Associated Diseases Society, the Orange County Medical Association, the Orthomolecular Health Association, and the San Luis Obispo County Medical Association.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

An authority in his field, Dr. Muran has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2009, 2008).

In his free time, he enjoys various beach activities, especially fishing and surfing. He also enjoys playing with his dog, Beau. His favorite place to vacation is Mexico. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
