The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) School of Medicine is proud to announce that it has been officially approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to offer long-term clinical clerkships in New York. This highly anticipated approval, granted by the NYSED Board of Regents on June 10, 2025, is valid for a period of seven years and marks a transformative step in UAG’s mission to deliver world-class medical education and clinical training.
Effective immediately, UAG students will be eligible to complete core and elective clinical rotations in accredited teaching hospitals across New York—one of the most competitive, diverse, and prestigious healthcare markets in the United States.
“This is a defining moment in our mission to prepare globally competent, U.S.-ready physicians,” said Dr. Kashif Ahmad, Dean of UAG School of Medicine. “Training in New York isn’t just access—it’s advantage. It means our students will be able to learn from, contribute to, and thrive in one of the most dynamic healthcare systems in the world.”
This approval is more than a milestone—it’s a reaffirmation of UAG’s commitment to educational excellence and to advancing international medical pathways. It aligns directly with our institutional goal to expand the presence and impact of our medical community and healthcare workforce across the United States, and Puerto Rico.
Through strategic approvals like this one, UAG aims to continue building bridges between countries and healthcare systems, giving our students and alumni the training, exposure, and credentials needed to serve diverse populations across the United States, and Puerto Rico.
“We are actively working to increase our international recognitions and clinical affiliations,” added Dr. Ahmad. “New York is just one chapter in a larger story. UAG is committed to growing its footprint, forming global partnerships, and opening new doors for future physicians.”
The New York approval comes with a 7-year validity and includes key guidelines around faculty development, formative feedback, and infrastructure, which UAG will continue to address and enhance as part of its ongoing academic quality initiatives.
With this development, UAG students will gain access to a broader range of hospital systems, patient demographics, and clinical challenges—all of which are vital in preparing them for successful residency placement and long-term medical practice.
Founded in 1935, the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara is one of the oldest and most respected private medical schools in Latin America. With a strong legacy of educating international physicians—particularly from the U.S. and Puerto Rico—UAG continues to lead the way in global medical training, clinical innovation, and healthcare workforce development.
