1. How will I know if I matched?

Applicants will learn whether they matched or not at 10:00am ET on Monday, March 11 by logging into the R3 system and receiving one of the below messages:
- Congratulations, you have matched! (categorical, primary)
- Congratulations, you have matched to an advanced position! (PGY-2 advanced – access to unfilled programs to participate in SOAP for a prelim position)
- Congratulations, you have matched to a one year position! (PGY-1 prelim – access to unfilled programs and eligible to participate in SOAP to obtain an advanced position)
- We are sorry, you did not match to any position! (eligible for SOAP)
- You are NOT matched because you did not submit a certified rank order list! (eligible for SOAP)
- You are NOT matched because you are withdrawn! (no access to SOAP)
o NOTE: Applicants are withdrawn as a result of not receiving OET test score or not receiving a Step 2 score back by ROL deadline or by securing a residency via another matching service (i.e. CaRMS)
2. When does SOAP start?

SOAP begins on Monday, March 11 when unmatched and partially matched applicants can access the list of unfilled programs under the SOAP tab in the NRMP R3 system.
3. How long does the SOAP process last?

SOAP-eligible applicants can begin reviewing NRMP List of Unfilled Programs in the R3 system beginning at 11:00am ET on Monday, March 11.. SOAP will conclude on Thursday, March 14 at 9:00pm ET.
4. If I am participating in the SOAP, can I apply to programs not participating in SOAP?

No, if you are SOAP eligible, you CANNOT contact or apply to programs that are not participating in SOAP until SOAP concludes.
5. Will programs contact me for an interview during SOAP?

Yes, programs may connect with you for an interview after they receive your ERAS application. Applicants participating in SOAP should ensure that they are available to receive phone calls during SOAP rounds and have access to their emails.
6. Can UAG update my MSPE letter for SOAP?

No, UAG cannot update MSPE letters for the SOAP process.
7. Should I customize my personal statement for each specialty during SOAP?

Yes, your personal statement should be catered to the specialty you are applying for.
8. Can UAG review my personal statement for or during SOAP?

UAG will not review personal statements during SOAP. However, students should apply the same tips and suggestions provided by the Graduate Affairs and Career Advising office during the initial review of their personal statement.
9. Do I need to create a preference list for SOAP?

No, applicants do not submit a preference list. Only programs can create a preference list for SOAP.
10. How will I know if there is a position being offered to me during SOAP?

Programs extend SOAP offers through the NRMP’s R3 system. Applicants who are extended an offer will receive an email notification advising you to log into the R3 system to view the offer.
11. How long do I have to accept an offer during SOAP?

Each SOAP round lasts 2 hours. Once a SOAP round closes, you will not be offered the same position again. Acceptance of a position during SOAP is binding and all other offers are rejected once one has been accepted.
12. What do I do if I secure a position through SOAP?

Students who secure a position through SOAP are required to submit the following information via email to careeeradvising@uag.edu.

13. If I still do not have a position after SOAP, how do I apply to unfilled programs?

You can contact unfilled programs directly utilizing the information listed in the R3 system after SOAP concludes.
14. How will I know where I matched?

All applicants learn where they matched by a notification via email and the R3 system on Friday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m. ET
15. What if I matched but I am not happy with the program I matched into? Can I be released from my obligation to attend?

The Match Participation Agreement states that a match between an applicant and program is a binding commitment. The same binding commitment applies during the SOAP. Only under limited circumstances will the NRMP grant a waiver of the binding commitment if honoring the binding commitment will result in serious and extreme hardship. The determination to grant or deny a waiver request lies in the sole discretion of the NRMP.
The R3 system will display applicant match history and specify whether an applicant has requested a waiver of the binding commitment and/or has been involved in an NRMP investigation.
16. How long must I remain in my program?

Applicants who give notice of resignation, resign, or vacate a position within 45 days of the start date specified in the appointment contract are presumed to have breached NRMP policy.
17. What are the consequences if allegations of an NRMP violation are confirmed?

Applicants may be barred from subsequent NRMP Matches and/or identified as a Match violator to participating programs for a period of one to three years or permanently, as determined by the NRMP.
18. Can UAG connect with programs on my behalf?

UAG cannot connect with residency programs on behalf of an applicant.
19. What happens if I didn’t match?

UAG offers post-graduate services that assist graduates in strengthening their application for the following year’s match.
20. Will UAG update my MSPE letter and review CVs and personal statements for next year’s match?

Yes, all applicants who will be reapplying to the 2025 Match will need to submit an MSPE update to careeradvising@uag.edu and submit their CVs and personal statements for review. The deadline to submit an MSPE update is June 1, 2024. The deadline to review CV and PS is August 30, 2024.
