An intensivist, or critical care doctor, specializes in providing care for critically ill patients, most often in the intensive care unit.

Neurocritical care medicine, on the other hand, is a specialized field that concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening diseases of the nervous system. This may include brain and spinal cord trauma, cerebral edema, ruptured aneurysms, severe strokes, encephalitis and meningitis, refractory seizures, and complicated brain tumors. As a neurocritical care physician, Dr. Burdick is equipped to diagnose and treat patients with neurological disorders or traumatic brain injuries, providing expert care to his patients in their most critical moments.
