Christopher A. Reeder, DO, FACS, FACOS, has been selected to lead the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, School of Medicine International Program. He fills a position so ably held by Lic. Ricardo Del Castillo Ruano, who is stepping down and acting as Executive Advisor for the School of Medicine.

“We are all quite excited at the prospect of Dean Reeder building on the solid foundation laid by Dean Del Castillo and all of our School of Medicine faculty over the past decades,” said Susana Leaño Del Castillo, Vice President for International Affairs. “I know the challenges that are involved to come back and practice medicine in the United States, and I want to give every student the opportunity to be the best they can and achieve their goal of becoming a practicing physician in the United States,” said Dean Reeder as he accepted the position.

Dr. Reeder brings to UAG School of Medicine an impressive history of leadership, research, and management. Throughout his medical career, he participated in academic roles at multiple levels, namely as a Clinical Professor for Boonshoft School of Medicine and at Ohio Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. In these roles, he actively took part in the training of students and residents throughout their medical careers, as such, he is keenly aware of what is necessary for students to achieve success.

Dr. Reeder mentions as he takes on this new leadership role within UAG School of Medicine that he is excited to continue developing and enhancing the programs and facilities currently in place. He hopes to expand the student success office as well as our continuing partnerships with Arizona State University and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Reeder is excited that in his new role he will be able to assist in the opening of the new state-of-the-art campus, where our international medical students will be given all the tools needed for success.

In his parting words to the students, Dr. Reeder says, “We are giving 100% effort into your education, in turn, I expect each student to give 100% effort in their education, if you do this you will be able to achieve your goal of becoming a physician in the United States.”

Dr. Reeder earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Hobart and William Smith College, his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his residency training in General Surgery at Peninsula Hospital Center and a Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Plastics Institute in Des Moines, Iowa.
