Introducing CANVAS, a Teaching Platform Used by the World’s Top Universities
By: UAG School of Medicine

The CANVAS platform was introduced to students, professors, directors, and authorities at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) as a new tool and innovative option for teaching services at all educational levels.

According to Hugo de la Rosa Peñaloza, Ph.D. Academic Vice President of the UAG, this platform is used by universities such as Harvard, Oxford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Arizona State University, which are leaders in various fields of education such as research, technology, and innovation.

He emphasized that the decision to renew the UAG's educational tools was based on the adaptation to current demands brought by the pandemic, resulting in greater digitization, self-service, and automation of teaching processes.

"Innovation is one of the UAG's defining characteristics; we are innovators." It is critical to validate the academic quality and innovation that have accompanied us since our inception, as the pandemic has transformed us and taught us to adapt to the new contexts that have emerged, with CANVAS as one of our tools for this," he stated.

Peñaloza announced that CANVAS will replace Moodle and that the UAG's Educational Innovation has been working with the tool for more than a year to learn and adapt it to the needs of the institution; currently, he reported 1,500 teachers are enrolled in courses to familiarize themselves with the platform.

"It remains at the forefront; we are adding a new platform; it will be the official platform from elementary schools to higher education," he concluded.

CANVAS: Secure, Quick, and Dependable

Humberto López Gómez, MBA, Director of Educational Innovation, took the stage during the demonstration to explain that the platform is intended to facilitate the teaching and learning of any student, university professor, or even business leader.

"It will always be available in the cloud, and they will have no trouble accessing it because it is fast, adaptable, and simple to use." The platform ensures the speed, high availability, and scalability required for Model B Learning-UAG adoption. "It's a high-quality Learning Management System (LMS)," he explained.

It is adaptable as a mobile application, graphic interface, intuitive and responsive, with available updates, support service, with 99.9 percent effectiveness.

CANVAS began operating at the UAG in some of the institution's undergraduate programs in January 2022, and the rest of the educational programs will gradually transition from the current platform to the new one.

López Gómez assured the university community that they have trained personnel to answer questions and support the university community. To learn more, click on the following link:
