UAG Alumni Association Launches Houston Chapter with Elegant Inaugural Gathering

On Friday, May 23rd, the UAG Alumni Association proudly hosted its first official gathering for the Houston Alumni Chapter, bringing together graduates for an elegant evening of reconnection and networking. Held at Morton’s The Steakhouse in Downtown Houston, the event offered a warm and welcoming dinner atmosphere where alumni enjoyed meaningful conversation, delicious cuisine, and a shared sense of UAG connection.

Alumni from a wide range of graduating classes and medical specialties — some of whom hadn’t seen each other in decades — came together to reflect on their time in Guadalajara, share stories from their medical journeys, catch up on life post-graduation, and forge new professional connections. The event marked an exciting new chapter for the UAG alumni presence in Houston, a city home to a thriving medical community and many devoted UAG graduates.

The evening began with welcoming remarks from Ms. Susana Leano, Vice President of International Affairs, who spoke about the importance of strengthening and expanding the UAG alumni network in the United States. She emphasized the vital role alumni play in shaping the future of healthcare and in supporting current and future UAG students.

Attendees also heard from Dr. Danielle Garcia, newly appointed President of the Houston Alumni Chapter, who shared her vision for the group and expressed her commitment to cultivating a strong, connected, and engaged alumni community in Houston. Her leadership is already setting the tone for a dynamic and inclusive future for the chapter.

A special highlight of the evening was the presence of Dr. Tom Garcia, a distinguished UAG alumnus and former President of the UAG Alumni Association. A respected figure in both the Houston and UAG communities, Dr. Garcia delivered heartfelt remarks about his deep-rooted connection to the university and the lifelong friendships he built during his time in Guadalajara. In a generous and inspiring gesture, Dr. Garcia announced a significant donation to the UAG Scholarship Fund, made in honor of his alma mater and in memory of his dear friend, Francisco Vázquez. His contribution will directly support future UAG medical students and underscores the powerful legacy of giving back that defines the UAG alumni community.

The evening was a powerful reminder of the enduring UAG bond — a connection that transcends geography, time, and career paths. As the Houston Chapter embarks on its journey, the event reaffirmed that no matter where life takes you, UAG alumni can always find a home within their global network.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and made the evening such a resounding success. We look forward to building on this momentum with more events, opportunities, and connections that bring our UAG family closer together — in Houston and beyond.

Stay tuned for upcoming chapter openings and alumni activities across the United States — the UAG alumni movement is just getting started!
