20/Feb/2024
In the vibrant tapestry of UAG School of Medicine's alumni community, there shines a unique and inspiring tale - the story of Dr. Mareen Greenway and Dr. Justin Barsoum. As proud graduates of our esteemed institution, their journey from student to practicing physician embodies the essence of excellence and dedication that defines the UAG legacy.

Dr. Mareen Greenway, a distinguished member of the Class of 2013, fondly reflects on her transformative experience at UAG. For her, our institution served as the gateway to her lifelong dream of becoming a physician. Through rigorous academic challenges and unwavering support from faculty, she honed her skills and emerged as a compassionate family medicine practitioner. Dr. Greenway recalls with gratitude the invaluable mentorship she received, particularly in the field of cardiology, where she credits her professors for preparing her for the complexities of medical practice.

For Justin Barsoum, the journey began with his graduation in 2023, marking the continuation of the Barsoum legacy at UAG. Currently immersed in exam preparation, Justin draws inspiration from his sister's trailblazing path in medicine. Witnessing Mareen's dedication and success ignited his passion for healing, setting him on a trajectory of academic excellence and professional growth. Together, they epitomize the spirit of camaraderie and support fostered within the UAG community.

Both Dr. Greenway and Dr. Barsoum attribute their readiness for real-world medical practice to the hands-on experiences and clinical rotations offered at UAG. From Phoenix, Arizona, where Justin Barsoum MD, gained practical skills under the guidance of experienced physicians, to his ongoing commitment to lifelong learning, their UAG education continues to shape their approach to medicine.

Looking ahead, the Greenway-Barsoom duo envisions a future where they collaborate and support each other in their respective medical careers. Their shared alma mater serves as the foundation for their partnership, offering a common ground rooted in excellence and compassion. As they navigate their careers, they remain steadfast in their commitment to making a difference in the lives of their patients and communities.

To prospective students embarking on their medical journey at UAG, Dr. Greenway and Dr. Barsoum offer invaluable insights and advice. They emphasize the importance of embracing the journey, forging meaningful connections, and maintaining resilience in the face of challenges. Their story serves as a testament to the transformative power of education and the enduring bonds forged within the halls of the UAG School of Medicine.
