The Management of Patients with Acute Stroke workshop (WS) was presented to our students by UAG last Thursday, November 17. Dr. Alvarez, head of the neurology department, created and oversaw the workshop, which was made available to the student interest group in neurology (SIGN).

The workshop began with a 15-minute educational presentation to the students on the specific pathophysiological events that take place in patients with the condition and the rationale for therapeutic intervention.

Following this break, students were divided into small groups and practiced the step-by-step procedure on a simulated patient with the help of Dr. Flores, who guided the cases, and Standardized patients: Dr. Herrera and Dra. Romero provided answers to the students' clinical questions via SIMMAN®, a highly advanced simulator for medical human patient simulation.

This simulator is engineered to fulfill educational objectives across different clinical disciplines and blur the lines between simulation and real life.

These sessions provide additional opportunities for students to develop clinical skills and supplement classroom instruction. It is well known that medical students often possess stigmatizing beliefs about neuroscience-based careers.

For pre-clerkship medical students, Dr. Alvarez believes that a structured hands-on/brains-on procedure workshop will increase their interest in learning examination techniques and comprehending the procedures used by doctors in clinical practice.

We would especially like to thank Sarahi Franco and Maria Elena Toledo, our biomedical engineers, for setting up the clinical scenario.

We also express our gratitude to the UAG School of Medicine for providing us with the spaces and state-of-the-art devices to achieve a better medical education.
