Connected with Tomorrow’s Doctors:
UAG at the LMSA Conference

We were thrilled to announce that the UAG School of Medicine International Program participated as a Platinum Sponsor at the 2024 Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) National Conference, which took place from September 20-22, 2024, in Los Angeles, California! The event, held during Hispanic Heritage Month, brought together over 1,000 Hispanic medical and pre-med students to connect with medical schools and residency programs. We were excited to take part in the Exhibitor Fair, providing us with a valuable opportunity to engage with LMSA members and chapters as we continued to attract future students to our international program.

This vital event brought together medical and pre-medical students, faculty, and healthcare professionals dedicated to addressing the unique healthcare needs of Latino and Hispanic communities while empowering the next generation of Latino physicians.

UAG
Our participation underscores UAG’s commitment to fostering a diverse medical workforce equipped to serve various populations. We recognize the importance of preparing bilingual and bicultural doctors who can effectively communicate with and understand the cultural nuances of their patients. This approach not only enhances patient care but also builds trust within communities that often face barriers to accessing healthcare.

A highlight of the conference was the participation of Alan Mauricio de Leon (MS4), a UAG medical student who served as a panelist. His insights and experiences provided valuable perspectives to aspiring medical students, showcasing the strength and dedication of our student community.

Throughout the conference, our team engaged with prospective students, sharing details about UAG’s medical program and reconnecting with alumni making an impact in the healthcare field. We also explored potential collaborations with residency programs and medical institutions, creating new opportunities for our students.

By preparing doctors who are both bilingual and bicultural, UAG School of Medicine helps ensure that future healthcare providers can bridge gaps in understanding and effectively advocate for the health needs of Latino and Hispanic patients. This conference was a fantastic opportunity to further our mission of promoting diversity in medicine and building meaningful partnerships within the healthcare community. Together, we are shaping a new generation of medical professionals ready to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our communities.

We are excited about the connections made at the conference and look forward to supporting future healthcare leaders. Thank you for your continued support in our mission to enhance diversity in medicine and improve healthcare access for all.
