On the morning of Thursday, October 6, 2022, third and fourth year UAG School of Medicine students completing their clinical training at Mayagüez Medical Center visited the David Chapel Betances Senior Center in Añasco. This center is dedicated to providing lodging and food throughout the day to elderly people with limited resources in the municipality of Añasco. After Hurricane Fiona passed through the west coast of Puerto Rico, Añasco suffered catastrophic damage. Many of the Center's participants live in Barrio Playa, where the hurricane caused the most damage.
During this visit, the students delivered food supplies and basic necessities to the participants of said center. They also spent the morning playing games, chatting, and giving physical exams to the participants. The activity was highly attended, and of great pleasure for both the participants and the students.
