Dr. Julio A. Peguero pursued his academic career at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico, where he earned his medical degree, and completed his residency in internal medicine at The University of Texas Dell Medical School. He furthered his training by serving as Chief Fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he completed his fellowship in medical oncology.
His passion for his profession is evident in his board certification in medical oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is an independent evaluation organization run by physicians who strive to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Dr. Peguero is highly regarded in his field and is an active member of various medical associations, including the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Texas Society of Medical Oncology, and the American Society of Hematology.
As an oncologist, Dr. Peguero specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. He leads a cancer treatment team of various healthcare professionals, coordinates treatment plans, and prescribes various types of treatment, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as assists patients with pain management.
His dedication and expertise have been recognized by his peers, as evidenced by his recognition as Fellow of the Year by UTMB Medical Oncology and as a "Super Doctor" by Texas Monthly in 2016 and 2017. He was also named a "Rising Star" by Texas Monthly in 2017.
