The American Health Council has cordially appointed Dr. Katia Lugo, MD, as “Best in Medicine” in recognition of her contributions and achievements. Having spent 11 years working in the healthcare industry, Dr. Lugo is an expert in her field, specializing in the area of Emergency Medicine.
 

Dr. Lugo first became involved in her profession due to her own experience of helping to care for her sister who has Downs Syndrome. From then on, she knew she wanted to pursue a career in the medical field.

Dr. Lugo began her academic endeavors by focusing her studies in medicine, attaining her MD in 2001 from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. Following on from this achievement, Dr. Lugo further pursued her studies, graduating from the New York Medical College in 2003. Dr. Lugo then received the opportunity to undergo her Residency at the Universidad de Puerto Rico, completing the Emergency Medicine Residency Program in 2006.
 

Dr Lugo has spent 9 years in her current role as Faculty at Team Health. Dr. Lugo’s daily role involves her teaching and performing clinical emergency medicine. With over a decade of service under her belt, Dr. Lugo displays extensive expertise in emergency medicine and is certified by both the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) and the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).
 

Initially, Team Health started in emergency medicine, before expanding to additional hospital-based practices, and serves post-acute care and ambulatory centers. Team Health provides services to include emergency medicine, anesthesiology, hospital medicine subspecialties, ambulatory care and post-acute care.
 

Dr. Lugo is extremely proud of her accomplishments throughout her career. Attributing her success to her hard work during her studies and professionally, she also acknowledges the continued support of her loving family.
 

In a continued effort to broaden her medical knowledge, Dr. Lugo maintains active membership with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and as a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (FAAEM)
 

Looking to the future, Dr. Lugo aims to continue with her successes whilst also looking to mentor others. In her time away from work, Dr. Lugo aspires to travel and also dedicates her time where possible to helping the FH Global Mission.
