In the world of medicine, the pursuit of knowledge and the desire to make a difference often lead students on remarkable journeys. This year, four exceptional students from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) School of Medicine had the incredible opportunity to showcase their research and represent their institution at the European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA) 2023 conference held in the enchanting city of Paris, France. Jennifer Uyere, Paola Lorena Sotelo, Fabiola Vazquez Padilla, and Miguel Cervantes Jr. not only attended this prestigious event but also presented their research to a global audience.

The ESRA conference is a pinnacle event in the field of anesthesiology and pain therapy, drawing leading experts, practitioners, and researchers from around the world. For these UAG School of Medicine students, it was a chance to not only learn from the best but also to contribute their own findings to the global discourse on medical advancements.
Jennifer Uyere, one of the students who attended the conference, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to present two separate abstracts on two distinct research projects. The first project delved into the use of spinal cord stimulation as a potential treatment for peripheral diabetic neuropathy, a condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide. Diabetic neuropathy is notorious for its debilitating effects on the nervous system, and the prospect of utilizing spinal cord stimulation to alleviate its symptoms is an approach that garnered significant attention at the conference.

The second research project, presented by the UAG team, focused on the utilization of liposomal bupivacaine to manage postoperative pain and, in turn, reduce the need for opioid-based pain relief. In an era where the opioid crisis has become a global concern, finding alternative methods to manage pain is of paramount importance. The research conducted by these students showcased the potential of liposomal bupivacaine to revolutionize postoperative pain management, providing safer and more effective options for patients.

Their dedication to advancing medical knowledge was palpable as they presented their research to an international audience of peers, professors, and professionals. The UAG School of Medicine students not only demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence but also their passion for making a meaningful impact on patient care.

Attending and presenting at ESRA 2023 was a remarkable achievement for these UAG School of Medicine students, and it underscored the institution's commitment to nurturing future healthcare leaders. Their participation in such a prestigious event not only reflected their individual dedication but also the collective excellence of UAG in the field of medicine.

As these students return from Paris with newfound knowledge, experiences, and connections, they undoubtedly carry with them the pride of representing UAG on the global stage. Their commitment to innovation and patient care serves as a beacon of inspiration to aspiring medical professionals and a testament to the institution's dedication to pushing the boundaries of medical science.   Jennifer Uyere's words ring true:

"We are very excited about the opportunity to present our two posters and positively represent UAG on a global scale."

Indeed, they have done just that, leaving an indelible mark on the world of anesthesiology and pain therapy.
